Jiu jitsu is a grappling based self defense martial art with the ultimate goal to submit your opponent via.
chokes and joint locks. Jiu jitsu is more commonly referred to as brazilian jiu jitsu, because the Gracie
family developed the martial art in Rio de Janeiro in the 1920s. However, a Japanese practitioner of
Kodokan Judo by the name of Mitsuyo Maeda taught the Gracie family members ground fighting. Over time as
jiu-jitsu grew in popularity, a combat sport derived from the martial art with certain organizations holding
events world wide.
Below are common submissions moves in jiu jitsu.
